Every year on August 17, our nation celebrates National Nonprofit Day—a special time to recognize the nonprofit organizations and selfless individuals who work tirelessly to improve lives and strengthen communities.
Here in New Orleans and the Greater New Orleans metro area, this day holds an even deeper meaning. Our city is built on a legacy of resilience, generosity, and neighborly care. At Fidelity Bank, we live out our mission to be Here for Good by proudly supporting the local nonprofit organizations that help our neighbors and shape a brighter future for our region.
Why National Nonprofit Day Matters in New Orleans
Nonprofits are at the heart of positive change. They feed hungry families, provide safe housing, open doors to education, expand healthcare access, protect our environment, and deliver countless other essential services.
Across Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and St. Tammany parishes, we see this work every day—from food banks in the French Quarter and Algiers, to youth mentoring programs in Metairie, to community health clinics in Slidell.
National Nonprofit Day is a perfect reminder to:
- Recognize the staff, volunteers, and donors who power nonprofit missions.
- Celebrate the causes that inspire action across the Greater New Orleans area.
- Support the organizations that make our community more compassionate, equitable, and vibrant.
A Legacy of Giving
National Nonprofit Day marks the anniversary of the Tariff Act of 1894, which granted tax exemptions to charitable organizations—paving the way for the nonprofit sector we know today.
Fast forward to 2025, and the United States is home to more than 1.5 million nonprofit organizations. Here in South Louisiana, we’re blessed with hundreds of dedicated groups making a difference every single day.
Fidelity Bank’s Commitment to Local Nonprofits
For us at Fidelity Bank, supporting Louisiana nonprofits isn’t just a gesture—it’s part of who we are. Through our Community Partners Program, we collaborate with nonprofit organizations throughout the New Orleans metro area, offering financial tools, strategic support, and relationship-based banking that helps them grow and thrive.
One of our newest initiatives, Spare Change for Good, provides participating nonprofits with an additional revenue stream while boosting their visibility in the community. It’s just another way we aim to be Here for Good—not just for today, but for generations to come.
